Big Sister Advice #1

Starting this year, in addition to the Q & A, I’ll offer you some general words of wisdom, or stuff to think about, as you find helpful.

On New Year, New Goals

You don’t have to set your goals by New Year’s Day. Take the first week of the year to figure out your goals for the year. Or the first two weeks. Or the first month. Make your yearly goals on your birthday, or the first day of Spring, or at the beginning of the academic year. Heck, if you don’t want to, don’t make goals at all.

But, if you decide to set goals, take some time to think about them:
What do you want to get out of this goal?
Is there something you want to add to your life? Something you want to change?
Is there a kind of person that you want to be? Do you want to be that person, or is it someone you feel like you should be?
How will you need to adjust your life in order to get to your goal?
How will you celebrate getting there?
Will you share these goals with anyone? Everyone?

The thing I love about goal-setting is the journey towards the goal. It’s so informative to discover what I truly value when I embark on a new goal. Consider this as you work towards your own goals this year. Try to set goals in different areas of your life: career, health, finances, fun, personal growth, etc. Also make time to reflect on your goals, and your progress towards them periodically. Maybe every month, or quarter, or semester.
