Big Sister Advice #13
Starting this year, in addition to the Q & A, I’ll offer you some general words of wisdom, or stuff to think about, as you find helpful.
On Dreams
One of the interesting parts of adulthood is where your childhood dreams become reality, or you let go of them. You might find yourself in a space where you realize that you don’t have any new dreams because you’ve achieved them all, or your life has changed so much that your dreams are no longer relevant. This means that it’s time for new dreams.
Dreams remind us that things are possible outside of our day-to-day life, and allow us to envision a future even when we can’t see exactly how things will turn out. Life is bigger than what we can see, and dreams allow us to approach those limits, so that we can go beyond them.
We can dream small dreams, of maybe having a cozy nook at home to read in, or a stress-free commuting situation, or enough money to buy our favorite candy bar every Friday.
We can dream big dreams of having a home to call our own, or holding political office, or moving across the world. Or even bigger, impossible seeming dreams, such as being the first in our family to do…whatever no one else has ever done. Of going to the moon, of discovering a new species of butterfly, or of being world famous.
Dreaming is so important, because our dreams give us futures to look forward to.
